I went into a haunted house
right on the edge of town
it looked just like a ruin
it was really tumbledown
I walked up to the door
that was swinging to and fro
it dangled on its hinges
and gave out an eerie glow
I pushed the swinging door
to see what lay inside
it seemed to move quite easily
and soon it opened wide
Then when I let go of the door
it started to lurch and sway
but I carried on regardless
even though it fell away
I forced myself to go inside
into the waiting gloom
by pushing myself forward
into the pitch black room
When I had gone into the room
I didn't make a sound
I just crept about in silence
and I took a look around
Then I noticed that I was hindered
by being in the dark
so I tried to light a match
but I couldn't get a spark
Whenever I picked a match up
a gust of wind would blow
but where the blowing came from
I just did not know
The wind had seemed to come
from down a passage way
it only blew when I lit a match
though why, I couldn't say
I walked along the passage way
to where there was no light
but I had only gone a few steps
when I had such a fright
Something moved ahead of me
I'm quite sure of that fact
but when it jumped in front of me
then I knew I had to act
I launched my body sideways
to get out of the way
but that only made me dizzy
and filled me with dismay
When I bounded to the side
I hadn't any cares
but I soon perceived my folly
when I hurtled down some stairs
When I landed at the bottom
I felt a complete fool
and standing there above me
was a really frightening ghoul
This ghostly apparition
that floated in mid-air
it filled me with foreboding
and it gave me quite a scare
My eyes popped out of their sockets
and my hair, it stood on end
when this spectre looked towards me
then started to descend
It came right close up to me
and it made me want to scream
it was then that I detected
that it had all been just a dream
I realized it hadn't happened
the way that I had thought
and I was very grateful
that my dream had been so short
I was happy when I woke up
for I was scared no more
I had realized that I had fallen
and hit my head upon the door
When I had pushed the door
that was so really old
it had fallen off its hinges
and had knocked me out stone cold!
